I want to share with you this phrase from my journal;

It’s scary to admit that I’m looking for excuses that would validate my lack of performance.

I wrote that five days ago.

I’ve been thinking how I’m spending my time. To be honest, I wasn’t satisfied how I was approaching each day lately. I don’t usually procrastinate, but I was subconsciously sabotaging myself.

I stopped taking care of the essentials.

I was getting absorbed by distractions.

The idea of not having enough time for anything of value was uncomfortable. However, it was just an assumption that needed to be tested. I had the notion that my schedule was compromised.

It was my habits that were compromised.

I felt that I was underperforming.

And I was.

Its time for some introspection and fostering my creativity. I’m reading the newest book by Cal Newport, titled Digital Minimalism, and I decided to follow his suggestions. I don’t have an excuse that would help me validate my lack of performance.

I’m working on my work input and output. I’m preparing myself to deliver both at school and with my music.

I won’t be blogging for a couple of weeks. However, I’ll be writing and working on school projects and music whenever possible.

Until then,

Ernesto

  1. Oh man, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve fallen into this. There’s nothing wrong with taking a much needed break. I was away from my blog for about a month(?). I won’t lie, once your first post after the break feels really good. I’ll be keeping an eye open for your next post. – JH

    1. Thank you, Jordan. I’m glad that this is relatable. I’m working towards finding time for things that matter to me. Take care, man!

  2. I fall into that trap a lot (usually when my schedule really does get in the way for a while—it takes me longer than I’d like to find my way back to the work when things level out again).

Good luck! I can’t wait to see what you come up with.

    1. Thank you, Reghan! It feels that things are getting better. I’m making time for things that bring me joy, such as guitar and books. Other times, might be a good night’s sleep. Hope all is well with you. How’s it going with Deep Work?

      1. I’m so glad you’ve been able to make some time for yourself and your music.

I just finished Deep Work this week, and I loved it. I’m still processing some of it, and figuring out how to best apply the ideas, but I’ve already noticed a shift in how I approach my writing. It’s definitely earned a permanent place on my shelf, and I’ve already put So Good They Can’t Ignore You and Digital Minimalism on hold at the library.

        1. That’s great. I’m happy that you liked it. I’m almost done with Digital Minimalism, but I stopped reading it in order to focus on another book. On the other hand, So Good They Can’t Ignore you is inspiring. I’m confident that you’ll like it, too.

          Best,

          Ernesto
